Mom's Sunday Rajma

Good with: Rice and sukhi aloo and raw sliced onions

    Ingredients for Curry:
  • 2 cups rajma
  • 1 elaichee
  • 3 diced onions
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 1/2 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped ginger
  • 5 tbsp tomato puree
  • 1 tbsp red chilli powder
  • 1 1/2 tbsp dhania
  • 1 tbsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tbsp haldi
  • 1/2 cup yogurt or 2 tbsp sour cream
  • salt to taste
    Method:
  • wash rajma and place in pressure cooker
  • add 3x more water to rajma
  • add salt to taste, and elaichee
  • cover cooker with whistle toot and let steam for 1/2 hour on high heat
  • meanwhile, heat oil in med-size pan. add garlic, onions, and ginger
  • cook on med-high until onions are burnt brown
  • add tomato puree, chilli powder, dhania, garam masala, haldi, and a tea cup water
  • cook for 2 minutes, then add yogurt or sour cream
  • mix on med-heat for a few minutes. then let simmer for 15 minutes
  • after cooker makes sound shut off after 10 munites
  • only open once all the steam is out. put under cold running water
  • open pressure cooker and add masala and 1 cup of water
  • cover cooker with whistle toot and put back on high gas for 25 minutes or so
  • shut off gas and let sit for 1/2 hour
